Alfie and Betsy the Dachshunds, Reactive Behaviour – Meeting

A few days ago I met Alfie and Betsy the Dauchshunds.
They are two lovely dogs that are showing reactive behaviours in different events, both outside and inside of the house.
We will be working together for the foreseeable future.
I will keep you updated on their progress. 🙂

Thank you,

Meeting Bert the Rescued Staffie

Last week I met Bert for the first time.

Bert is a staffie that was rescued by Staffie Smiles Rescue after he had a really sad past.
We know that some humans were hanging him from a tree at some point…

Yes, really sad.

Nevertheless, Bert was open to meet me once I entered his kennel and after that, we went for a walk and later on for some positive interactions in the paddock.

Although Bert is not so young, he is still an active dog who likes to play and he loves treats, which is great for training.

You can watch a short video of my first meeting with Bert and maybe fall in love with him?

Every time, I am still surprised about the capability of dogs to love us, even after so sad life experiences which for sure would break any human.

Dogs are Amazing.

Dog Training Perth – Taz the Staffie Cross

Taz is a staffie cross who is showing reactive behaviours towards other dogs.
When he sees a dog, even at a long distance, he will bark and lunge towards them.
Taz was not always like this, in fact, his reactive behaviour started after he was attacked by another dog.
We started Taz’ therapy very recently and we still have a long way to go, although we already see Taz much calmer on his daily walks away from dogs and the training is starting to show some progress.
Below you can watch a short video of our second session and watch Taz making more desired choices in the presence of another dog and also see the difference in his behaviour from the beginning to the end of the session.
Now that Taz showed us that he can be calm in the presence of another dog at a certain distance, we just need to work to have him behaving in the same way when closed to another dog.
It is just a matter of time! 🙂
Do you have a reactive dog? Have you realised that he is not always reactive? Have you realised that he is reactive only in specific situations?
With Positive Reinforcement based training we can help dogs feel more comfortable and behave in a more desired ways in those specific situations!

Dog Training Edinburgh – Working with Rescued Staffies

Today I spent my morning in Edinburgh at Staffie Smiles Rescue working with new dogs.

This is Ruby, she arrived recently to the kennels and she was going to be put to sleep before the rescue took her.

It was my first meeting with her and we had a really nice time of positive interactions and training.

Before I met her, Ruby was labelled as “jumpy” because it seems that she jumps a lot.

After a few minutes with her, she did jump towards me a lot and I took that opportunity to put into practice a new training protocol that I have been learning recently from Dr. Jesus Rosales Ruiz from the University of North Texas.

Videos will come soon!

Dog Training Edinburgh – Harvey the Vizsla

Video of a recent session with Harvey the baby Vizsla.

Some of you may already know Harvey, but for those who do not know…

Harvey is a Vizsla pup, and he is a lucky one!

His parents took the great decision of starting his education from the beginning of his life to make sure he will learn and experience what is necessary to grow into a confident, social and happy dog.

I met Harvey before his first walks in the real world, where we worked in some foundation training at home like wearing a harness and lead, foundations of clicker training, recall and the most important one, connection.

The video below is a short clip of one of Harvey’s first walks in the real world.

It was a simple walk, but with loads of important steps in between.

During this walk, we worked on lead handling, positive associations, reinforcement of desired behaviours in the presence of possible triggers and overall connection between the human and the dog in the real world.

If you are thinking to get, or you already got a pup, then I will advise you to invest in their education through positive reinforcement training from an early age.

Do not wait for the problematic behaviours to come, and especially, do not wait for the problematic behaviours to develop in serious issues that might even make you think to drop your dog at a rescue…

There are methods and tools to deal with any behaviour problem.

Every Dog can improve their behaviour!

In any case, always choose Positive Reinforcement Training.
